Stole this from
sl_walker who stole it from
exbex, who stole it from
akamine_chan. If I don't abridge it, it'll never get finished. >.< Also, I'm adding roleplay, because so much of what I do links both fanfiction and roleplay together.
Day 1 - How did you first get into writing fanfic, and what was the first fandom you wrote for? What do you think it was about that fandom that pulled you in?
I first got into fanfiction because of my sister,
sl_walker . I don't think we knew it was called fanfiction back then, but it definitely counts.
Technically speaking (and I know more than one of you is going to laugh), my first written fandom was Power Rangers. While my sister was away at band camp and I was left to my own devices, I took to writing something for her to read when she got home. If I recall correctly, not only was she proud of me for forging ahead alone, but I was proud of me for being able to write like my sister. Sort of.
What pulled me in? Probably a deep-seated desire for Kimberly, the Pink Ranger. Not only did I want to be her, but in retrospect, I think I was a little bit in love with her, too. I can't remember what exactly I wrote, but I'm pretty sure it involved the Rangers being trapped in a Lost World like atmosphere. It may or may not have turned into a crossover with Captain Planet and the Planeteers. <.< It's been a long time, okay? I can't remember my name some days, so remember the details of that are pretty unlikely. (Also, there was definitely some Knight Rider/X-Men fanfiction in there, but that was later, I think.)
Day 2 - Name the fandoms you've written in, and how much you've written in that fandom, and if you still write in it.

Day 4 - Do you have a "muse" character, that speaks to you more than others, or that tries to push their way in, even when the fic isn't about them? Who are they, and why did that character became your muse?
I do have many muses that speak to me more than others. Specifically Al Calavicci (or Bingo, depending on what era I'm writing,) Sokka, and Archie Kennedy (though Archie doesn't actually speak, he just makes his presence and feelings known and.) Generally speaking, when I write, I'm writing for these characters, so it doesn't matter to me if they push themselves to the forefront.
ARCHIE KENNEDY
Archie and I sort of... fell in with each other. I wasn't even finished with the series before he was talking to me. And when they ended him, then ended a little piece of me. I think
sl_walker and I both agreed it wasn't an appropriate end, and from there did what we could to vindicate him. From there, I've never let him go. Currently, he's retired himself (something I wish he wouldn't do,) but he's happy, so I'm okay with it.
ADM. AL CALAVICCI / AL "BINGO" CALAVICCI
Al has always endeared himself to me, though he didn't become an active muse until some time around 2001/2002. I read Pulitzer, and he just... stuck. I didn't RP him right away (just wrote), but I like to think he was always there, egging me on to do something that seemed impossible. When I finally did pick him up for roleplay, it was thanks to
starxd_sparrow and her wonderful Kara Thrace. Something told me that a hot-headed pilot like Bingo (that's younger Al Calavicci, for those unfamiliar) would get along famously with a hot-headed pilot like Kara Thrace. And, get along famously, they did!
When I finally did pick up the Admiral, it was for my dear friend Arden's Brave New World RP. He and Kara were partners working for a government agency, and boy were they just so perfect together. Both foodies, and excellently snarky, they hit it off in no time. I still miss the amazing dynamic to this day.
SOKKA
Oooooh, Sokka. I found myself completely endeared to the fool about five episodes into the series. I wasn't even finished with season two before he started invading my headspace. I waited out the series before I picked him up for roleplay, but before I did so, I wrote with him and found myself enjoying it oh so much.
I don't have a whole lot to say about Sokka, aside from the fact that I really, really, really adore him. He's just the right about of spunky-meets-tragic. He doesn't take life seriously all the time (something he's helping me learn,) and even when he's down, he manages to pull himself back up. Sincere, apologetic, funny, clever? How can I not love him.
Currently, he's about 8000x louder than any of my other muses. Sometimes I feel if I have the ambition to stick with him, he'll take over above all the others one day. :3
Day 5 - If you have ever had a character try to push their way into a fic, whether your "muse" or not, what did you do about it?
I can't say this happens a lot, because I generally write for said one muse, but I can recall a few instances:
Nothing Much to Lose - A Titanic/Horatio Hornblower crossover I wrote with
sl_walker . We didn't expect Archie Kennedy and Harold Lowe to be so active, but they sort of took over the story (and eventually found themselves in Rhy'Din and the roleplay world because of it.) 100 Days - From the Buzz
Lightyear of Star Command fandom (and another story written with
sl_walker ), this story is famous in my mind for unexpected characters taking over. All of the NPCs turned into OCs and demanded attention of their own. It was glorious. :3
BONUS: State of the RP
I've been playing Sokka over at
adstringendum since about mid-May (and a bit longer at
silverloom ) and it's been lovely. I've met so many amazing people and it's just sort of taken off. I cannot express how wonderful these people are in character and out, so if you're thinking of apping anywhere, please consider either Adstring or Silver Loom. You can't go wrong!
As for Sokka himself... well, I'm getting a liiiiittle more confident, but I worry so much more about him than any other muse. He's a pretty popular character and there are a lot of already-seasoned Sokka players out there, so I'm always feeling judged . If I can help it, I avoid others' renditions of the characters I play, and I try very very very hard to do so with Sokka, because I'm so insecure. <.<
But I keep trying. He's worth it. And we're getting better together. I can see the improvement now that he's settling and I'm settling, but if Al's taught me anything, it's that I can always be better.
On a more personal level, I've made myself a musebox community:
aimtoamuse where I play out little cracky things. I welcome anyone to come play with me with any of my
muses. Just drop me a note here or PM me or whatever and I'll be sure to see what I can do about getting something amazing started with you. \o/
