We took a trip to Woodville to see the new windfarm that was installed there this year.
Above is the Manawatu gorge. There is a road on the right and a train route on the left (you can't see it here, it must be in a tunnel at this point).
In February, the Manawatu region had amazing floods. Do a web search for pictures -- it was impressive. It was no tsunami, but it was serious. The above picture shows an area of "slip" where the hill came down in the rain and took much of the road with it -- that's new road there. Before putting in new road, they used a helicopter to dump buckets of water on the area to make sure that all the slip had ... slipped.
