Watched a Lovejoy yesterday (well, I'd hoped to watch something a little more stimulating, but you can't have everything). One of the characters in it was a Lord Alan Trenchard. I mention this because it amuses me ( Read more... )

What's so amusing about a Lord Trenchard? There've been Lords Trenchard for hundreds of years, I'll have you know. Viscount Trenchard was on Edward III's privy council in 1382, and in 1400 a Viscount Trenchard was named "Commander of the Armies of the South", which included all the ships sailing from Southampton and Portsmouth. It's a title with a long and glorious tradition!

Or is it amusing because mentioning it is guaranteed to raise exactly this sort of response?

Also, it always does amuse me to see people with similar names appear. I collect birthdays too.

I am not a footballer, a mountaineer/naturalist or an AI researcher. But I do do a bit of hillwalking and poking plants, and I wish I could do more AI, I miss AH computing...
