that's priceless. One thing that really riles me is the fact that so many Chinese people are unable to form their own opinions on anything. Most of my students in their exams gave stock answers most of the time.

Example:

Should China continue it's space programme?
Yes, because when China becomes more powerful no-one will attack us and the motherland will become stronger and stronger.

If I didn't remember wrongly, the answer should also include if China has a successful space program, all Chinese will have something to be really proud of!

"Should China continue its space program?" was an actual exam question? That's a no-brainer for Chinese students. It's like asking "Is Taiwan part of China?" or "Is Japan evil?"
