Tucked in the middle of the country as we are, we are only getting the secondary issues from the storm. We've had gale force winds and lots of rain, but no power outages that I know of. The sky is low and grey, the rain is icy cold, and the wind cuts to the bone. In the midst of all this, there is a November rose in my garden. Its a dusky rose ( Read more... )

Gale force winds and icy rain is nothing to sneeze at. It actually is not that cold here. Seasonal to warmish temperature still. Your rose sounds lovely.

I guess it is pretty bad all over. I used today's weather to escape an errand to UPS and Target, so there is some good come of it all.

I do love my gardens. Twenty one years of buying on a whim at the farmers market, then watching to see what survives isn't the best way to groom a garden, but it does have its moments.

That would be the only way I could do it! I do home furnishing that way also. I don't like a carefully planned look. Laura will say to me sometime when a beautiful apartment is shown on TV, 'Look at that place. Isn't it nice?' and I will say. "Hmm. Looks like they had a designer and bought everything all at the same time. Not a good look!" But that is just me.

My sister says, "Houses are for living in." I'll never be friends with Martha Stewart. I love my antique sewing machine tucked next to a bookcase (one of many bursting with books) and a gas powered wood stove. I like the piano, its top filled with pictures and odd crafts the kids made. I could do without the overstuffed 'fridge, but the point is, we live amidst the accumulation of our lives, not the cookie cutter prescription of what is appropriate. The orchid I bought last weekend is set on a high bookcase, the paper is still on the table, and my dictionary project is strewn across the table. I live here and I love it!
