Where have all my people gone?

Jun 25, 2010 06:08

The last of the 48 retirement parties last night and it was Lois. All my people have gone now and I'm left with shitty new hires and old ass kissers. Of course I got trashed and this morning I'm paying the piper.

I don't want to be there anymore. :(

About four years ago, the last member of the admin interview panel that hired me was let go---Molly Bates, our Dean of Instruction and my very good friend. My best friend (and one of the few other men) in the English dept., Doug Walker, retired a year ago.

I'm on my fifth principal. :-/

But on the plus side, I'm really, really good at my job and everyone seems to know and respect that, and I have the freedom of seniority and past successes to do whatever the fuck I want with my curriculum!

It's the same situation with me as far as being known for kicking ass at my job. I however don't have the freedom to do as I please.

Besides losing good friends, I've also lost the folks with the good work ethic. The ones who had my back, you know? And that's a big loss in my line of work with all the violence we are subjected to. What I have left for coworkers are people who look out only for themselves and to hell with the teamwork. They make sure they get their breaks and hide in the office, but to hell with their coworkers. That kind of folk. :(

It's going to be a challenging time.
