Wikipedia character page Character Background:
Ryohei is a fifteen-year-old boxer who goes to the same school as Tsuna and his friends, and he is the older brother of Kyoko, who Tsuna has a crush on. Ryohei is extremely (see what I did there?) passionate about anything that interests him (i.e. boxing) and he gets fired up about things easily. This has resulted in his involvement with Tsuna and his family, although for most of the series, Ryohei might not actually be aware of the full extent of Tsuna's connection to the mafia. Because he gets so worked up over things, he tends to rush into things without giving his actions a lot of thought, and this has led to some pretty humiliating defeats for him. In addition, he has a bad memory and tends to forget important details, which does not contribute much to his success when he runs headlong into situations he's unprepared for. Despite all of this, he never gives up, doing everything he can to protect his friends and his sister, and views his failures and defeats as opportunities to improve himself.
Ryohei is incredibly protective of his sister, to the extent that he will lie to her to keep her from worrying about him. This is due to an incident when they were younger, when some older kids who didn't like him used Kyoko to lure him into a trap and beat him badly. Kyoko blamed herself and made him promise not to get into any more fights (apparently boxing matches don't count because they're a school activity?). He agreed to this, but told her that there would be times when he would just have to fight, but that if it was going to make Kyoko sad, then he wouldn't ever lose.
When Ryohei is first introduced, he is impressed by Tsuna's dying will and tries to get him to join the boxing club at school (he invites several other people to do so on various occasions as the series goes on, always to no result). After Reborn shoots him with the dying will bullet and it has no effect on him because he is "already willing to die", Reborn decides that he wants Ryohei to join Tsuna's family. Following this, Ryohei continues to turn up and take part in the various activities of Tsuna and his friends.
During preparation for the ring battles, Ryohei was trained by the Arcobaleno Colonello, who taught him that his body is at its best after rest. As a result, Ryohei tends to fight primarily with his left fist, reserving his right for when he really needs it. During the battles, Ryohei defeats Lussuria of the Varia with this technique, winning the Vongola sun ring and earning his position as Tsuna's sun guardian. He continues to attend the individual ring battles, and comes to the rescue of Gokudera and Yamamoto when they're under attack by Mammon and Belphegor during the final sky ring battle between Tsuna and Xanxus.
Following the ring battles, Ryohei's friends, beginning with Tsuna, begin to disappear as they are one by one sent to the future to help defeat Byakuran and his Millefiore family. Ryohei doesn't follow them until some time later, at the end of the raid on the Melone base. Although his understanding of the situation is limited, he readily accepts his role in the proceedings and is taught by Gokudera how to use his box weapon. It's following this training, on the eve of the Choice battle, that Ryohei ends up in Wonderland.
Abilites/Special Powers:
Ryohei is a skilled boxer whose strength and physical endurance are greater than the average human. Under Colonello's tutelage, Ryohei's strength is exemplified and he's able to unleash punches that break boulders down into rubble (no joke. Imagine being hit in the face by that). This technique is called the "maximum canon" and is compared to the ability of the first Vongola sun guardian to actually project the force of a blow at a remote target (although Ryohei is not able to do this himself).
Third-Person Sample:
Ryohei still didn't really understand what was going on. He'd been able to open his box weapon easily enough, even without any actual help from Gokudera, and the kangaroo inside seemed to get along with him just fine, even if it was the older him that she was used to. But training was one thing and knowing the situation were another, and while he'd always excelled at the former, the latter wasn't really something he was much good at. He left that to people like Sawada and Reborn, and just did whatever they said (as long as what they said wasn't "let Gokudera train you," because Gokudera was annoying and extreme in all the wrong ways, if that were even possible).
So it didn't bother him all that much that the extent of his knowledge about the upcoming battle was that they had to beat Byakuran and his six Funeral Wreaths in order to save the world. The fact that he had no way of correlating the means with the end didn't matter so much. He just knew that he needed to train so that he could help the others reach their goal.
Training to use the motorbikes had been fun, and he had gotten along with Kangaryu as soon as he'd gotten her to come out of her box. But listening to Gokudera explain the mechanics of box weapons and ring flames was extremely boring. But Dino had said Gokudera would teach him, so he dutifully showed up for it.
He sat across the table from his "teacher" in a room that reminded him of a library while the Storm Guardian droned about varying powers of ring flames, and let his mind wander. Training with Gokudera was only fun when they actually used their rings and boxes. But this lecturing wasn't real training as far as Ryohei was concerned, and even Ryohei was aware that he'd never remember any of it. He only remembered things he could feel. That's how it had been with Colonello, and he'd improved a lot in just ten days from that training.
He wondered where his master was now. Dead, maybe, he thought, even though it had seemed impossible for someone like Colonello to ever get killed.
But then, he'd thought that about Tsuna too--if for completely different reasons--and the Tsuna here in the future had died.
He frowned, finally focusing his gaze on Gokudera. If beating the Vongola's enemies here in the future would mean that Tsuna and Colonello and everyone else would be alive and happy when they all finally got to this point in time, then maybe it was worth it to try to pay attention to what the other boy had to say. If it would help them fight and win, he could do it.
It didn't make it any less boring, though.
First-Person Sample:
This...is not the Vongola base. And it is extremely not Namimori either. SO WHERE IS IT?! WEREN'T WE SUPPOSED TO GO FIGHT THAT WHITE-HAIRED GUY AND THE FUNERAL WHATEVERS TODAY?!
Somehow I came to the wrong place. I extremely should have written it down. Or that octopus-head should have come and gotten me. He can't STILL be mad about how he's a terrible trainer, right? That's stupid to the extreme.
Well, I guess I should go find everyone. They can't be too far, right? It's extremely unlikely that they'd have left me behind!
