It's sad. I was really hoping I would have gotten better. Good enough...

No, you don't understand. This is something that I've been trying quite hard at for some time to achieve a certain level of ability in order to be able to engage in said competition with someone.

I was hoping I had reached it. It is obvious to me now that I have not.
