The bakery manager attached the order slip on top of the cake box and called, “Ryouhei! Hurry up and get this order out!”
The short brunette man rushed from the kitchen to the front counter and picked up the cake box, quickly heading out the front door almost bumping into someone. He immediately stepped back and bowed apologetically. “Sorry, sir,” he said, looking up to see the familiar blonde smoking a cigarette casually, “K-kyo-san…”
“Being clumsy again, I see,” the older man teased a little, then his attention shifted to an angry voice coming from the bakery entrance.
“Ryouhei! You clumsy idiot! Stop wasting time and get moving! You have three more orders to deliver,” the manager scolded.
The brunette bowed a little and started going on his way to the address on the slip attached to the order as Kyo watched, exhaling a puff of smoke past his lips.
“What a jerk,” he murmured and decided to follow the other quietly.
Ryouhei sighed softly, bopping to the soft beat in his head and trying to ignore how embarrassed he felt in front of Kyo, and finally approached the apartment complex. He walked in and decided to take the elevator for the safety of the cake. Once the cake was properly delivered to the customer, he quickly headed down the stairs and out the building.
“No accidents this time?” a familiar voice asked.
Ryouhei glanced in the direction of the voice and saw the owner drop his cigarette on the ground, putting it out with the sole of his shoe. “A-ah, no…I took the elevator,” he answered, blushing lightly.
“That’s good,” he said, pushing himself off the wall of the building, “So, are you heading back for more?”
The brunette nodded and began retracing his steps to the shop.
“Is your boss always like that?” Kyo asked curiously.
“Like what?” he tilted his head cutely.
“Y’know~ an ass,” the older man said bluntly.
“A-ah, he’s not always like that. He’s actually a nice guy,” Ryouhei replied a bit flustered as he continued his journey back to the shop.
“Doesn’t seem like it. How long have you been doing this?”
“About two and a half years.”
“Tch~ I don’t think I could be abused like that for that long.”
“I’m not abused. He treats me very well,” he defended.
“I know fuzoku that get treated better than you do. Why don’t you open your own shop?”
“I…I can’t do that. I love my job! It’s what I’ve always wanted to do. Work in this famous little bakery,” he said, pausing outside the door.
“You should at least think about it. I bet you could run this place out of business. It can’t be that famous,” he sighed and muttered, “I’ve never heard of it until now.”
“Oh, but it is!” Ryouhei replied, his eyes sparkled a little, “This place has the best cakes and pastries in this city…maybe even the country. They have won numerous awards for their craft and they display so much passion in their work. I feel honored to work in such a remarkable bakery and spend my time with the experts day in and day out.”
Kyo blinked at the heart felt statement, feeling a bit speechless, but soon the silence was broken by the same angry voice from before.
“Ryouhei! I’m not paying you to socialize outside my shop!” the manager yelled irritably, “You’ve got thirty minutes to get these deliveries out.”
“Y-yes, sir,” the younger man responded with a bow, “I have to get going. Maybe I’ll see you another time.”
“Now!” the manager barked.
Ryouhei bowed to Kyo and scurried back in the shop, getting slapped in the back of the head by his boss and scolded more. Kyo watched sadly through the window, shoved his hands in his pockets, and walked away from the bakery. He raised a brow as he felt something in one of the pockets and took it out. He half smiled as he looked at the coupon the other gave him when they first met. He tucked it away and continued on his way to his office.
