As the tattoo artists and shop managers hugged Ka-yu and said their goodbyes, Aki wrapped up the remaining cake from their celebration and smiled at his mentor. “Did you enjoy yourself?” he asked.

“Yeah! I wasn’t expecting a surprise party. I feel loved~” Ka-yu chuckled.

“Well, of course! Everyone was worried about you and missed you,” Aki replied, picking up the cake, “I was surprised you took some customers today.”

“Why? I still remember everything. Plus, I miss tattooing so much,” the older man grinned, handing Aki’s bag over. “Ready to celebrate for real?”

“Uh...I don’t know. I’ve never been much of a club person,” the young artist answered, heading out the door and watching Ka-yu lock up.

“I think it’s time for you to try something new then.”

Aki nodded a bit and followed alongside his mentor. They stopped at Ka-yu’s apartment to change and drop the celebratory cake off in the kitchen, then made their way over to the nearest dance club. They stopped near the entrance and Ka-yu faced Aki, fixing his hair a little with a smile.

“Very stylish~” Ka-yu commented, before leading him into the noisy building.

Aki looked over the crowd of people either entertaining themselves on the dance floor, relaxing at one of the many tables surrounding the club, or mingling with strangers at the bar. He felt a little nudge and followed Ka-yu to the bar, watching him order drinks for them.

“Pretty popular place, huh?” the older man commented, paying for their drinks and handing one to Aki.

He accepted the glass and murmured, “A little overwhelming.”

Ka-yu smiled at the refreshing flavor of his drink in his mouth and the lively activity of the crowd. Soon, a set of red headed twins approached him, giggling a little out of nervousness. Aki took a couple steps back as he noticed them linking arms with his mentor.

“We saw you walking in and we wanted to know if you would like to dance with us,” one of the twins asked with a s light foreign accent to her Japanese.

“Go ahead. I’ll be here,” Aki assured with a warm smile.

Ka-yu nodded, putting his arms around their shoulders, and headed away from the bar area to dance with the foreign twins.

The younger man sighed softly, ordered another drink for himself, and watched Ka-yu sandwiched between the two young ladies, simply happy he was having fun. He glanced to his right and took a seat on the empty stool. He continued watching and drinking, then heard a female voice to his left talking to him.

“Friend left you alone?” she asked.

“Just for a little bit. I don’t mind. As long as he’s having fun,” he answered, sitting the empty glass down on the bar counter.

“Are you going to dance too?”

“I’m not much of a dancer. I’m too nervous to go out on my own and dance with some stranger.”

“Well, my name is Yumi. What’s yours?” she said with a sweet smile.

“Aki,” he replied, bowing his head a little.

“Well, now we’re not strangers. Perhaps you would like to dance with me.”

“A-ah...maybe later,” he said with a shy smile and watched the twins grin on his friend.

“Hmm…you want to dance with the twins,” she said with a little sadness to her voice as she followed his gaze.

“No, no, that’s not it. Dancing with one girl is hard enough for me; two would make me pass out,” he joked a little.

“Is it your friend?” she asked, tilting her head cutely.

Aki blushed a little and simply ordered another drink.

The girl nodded knowingly and said, “Tell me when you’re ready. My table’s over there.” She pointed to the opposite side of the club and added, before walking away, “Maybe you should talk to him.”

The young man flicked his lipring a bit and watched her walk away, before moving his focus back on Ka-yu on the dance floor. He leaned back on the bar, accepting his drink, and noticed how comfortable his mentor was between the two beautiful foreigners, watching his body’s movements and his hand moving one of the girls’ hips dancing in front of him. From what little he knew about his boss’s past, Aki felt that perhaps it was too late to open up and explore those friendship boundaries they’ve gradually expanded since he moved. He wasn’t completely sure, but he was willing to stick by the other no matter what and figure out what to do with himself in the meantime.
