process is often the point. it's never the end that changes us. no one can give us answers to our greatest questions that will change the way we view the world. sometimes we need things beat into us. suffering sometimes brings answers. it's one of the curses of being human

But, I think there's a problem with your statement about "we all deserved" -- doesn't middle america love george bush? kinda like a similar response to something John wrote much earlier, but people who have [relative]privelege pushed Bush into office and are happier for it. It's "the rest of us" who are fucked as usual.
But maybe that's too black and white.
My roommate asked me today if 9/11 changed me. I said it made me more paranoid -- of the U.S. government and kookoos coming out of the wood work.
