I thought i would write a quick blurb about busses in Kyoto. Busses are GREAT and really useful in Kyoto. If you are not familiar with buses in Japan and such here is a number of quick points ( Read more... )

There are actually some buses that charge by distance (like all other buses in Japan). Check the little bus map they give you at the station - only certain coloured routes have the flat rate 220yen. From what I remember, the buses that don't really go to tourist destinations are the ones you have to pay by the km. We stayed in a hotel in the north end once, and the buses up there weren't flat rate. Also, I think some change depending on the time of day... they are flat rate during the day, but not in the evening, etc.

I understand that Kyoto is the only city where the bus numbers are in romaniozed and not in kanji.
