Yaki-imo, Chaimon

Yaki-imo is a lifesaver for anyone who has been in japan in the winter. The little trucks calling out "Yaaaaki iiiimoooo". It is basically baked sweet potato. But not really the Yams like you get in the states. A bit for of a mild sweet and white not ORANGE ( Read more... )

I love the yaki-imo song and always wish i could record it. Though i think the variation here in Kyoto is a bit different so i will have to record it anyway so we can compare. It is one of those sound have a very strong emotional attachment for me. Cold winter nights in japan at a small shrine staring at the night sky comparing japanese and english constalation names.

OMG I love yakiimo. my host dad used to by it for us sometimes. SOOOOO GOOOD. I want one real bad, but I cant find them here! My host grandma used to cook them, then slice them and put powdered sugar on them, yum!
