I saw this commercial the other day and laughed at its sheer awesomeness:

It's a send-up of the popular Big Red gum commercials from the 1980s, except this time they've appropriated the jingle for Verizon.

Yeah, some companies here have made the mistake of attempting to "modernise" an old jingle.

I suspect they just do it so people will go "Hey! What happened to the old jingle? I liked that jingle!" and then "Yay! They brought the old jingle back!".

The old jingle for Crown forklifts is particularly wintacular since it's done in the style of old-timey football team anthems.

And as that one YouTube commenter said, it's even more effective because the song's lyrics and the visuals explain exactly what it does: Crown trucks pick things up and put them down.

Every now and then I'll see a particularly funny commercial on TV and the unfortunate truth is I have no idea what it was for. Creating a memorable commercial in a :15-:30 slot is quite an art.

Hence why the Crown commercials are so great. There's no doubt what the thing's for and everyone loves to sing along to the jingle.
