in which I make a stupid pun

What the hell sort of word is 'swashbuckling', anyway? I understand the 'buckle' part, but how does one swash a buckle? Or buckle a swash? What is a swash?
Once upon a time, when I was wee and cute, I used to think it was 'swatch-buckling' until someone enlightened me and ruined my fun.

"Arrr, laddies, buckle your Swatches, it's... PIRATE TIME!"

arrrr

Oh... well, I guess that puts things into perspective. I'm pretty sure that I'd rather go see a swashbuckling adventure than a shield-striking one.

All I know is that I love the word to death, but now you've gotten me horribly curious.

AND HI A PUN I LOVE PUNS.

>_> Would it stroke your ego (or perhaps, swash it?) if I told you I giggled more than I should have at that? Ahem.

HOORAY PUNS.

Ooh. This could bring in some interesting innuendo. I'll swash YOUR buckles, if you know what ah mean. *wink wink nudge nudge*

Best pun ever.

Swash is like waves. Like when you're standing on the beach, and you're standing almost where the dry sand starts but not quite, and then the waves wash over your feet but then are pulled back again? What you're standing in at that moment, is swash.

Oh, really? Hmmh. I'll put it in my personal ad-- "enjoys literature, pimp canes, and long walks in the swash."

Still can't figure out how to buckle one, though.
