As a woman, would you want to know ahead of time if you were the only woman in a group of a dozen men you did not know, when you would be staying in hotels, but also classroom settings, as well as in the field, in the middle of nowhere, late into the night

YES, I would have wanted to know ahead of time only because of the bathroom situation alone.
Being around men is a mixed bag for me though. History of abuse, rape and all. BUT... I have been in your situation on a very long horseback adventure. 32 days with only guys as a teenager was intense...
I was not the wisest of girls.
Learned a lot about setting up SPACE at sleep time and also privacy in bathing outdoors and relieving myself.
So again... YES... but I would have chickened out.
My hat is off to you for sticking it out.
