And could those patches be some kind of fungus? I get weird stuff like that here too occasionally (especially during long rainy stretches), and I always poop inside.

No it honest to goodness is just mashed up grass clippings. When it was fresh it was of a consistancy that could be used to make snowballs err... grassballs?
As to the smell, do rainbows smell like rotting broccolli? Cause that's what vegan cowpies smell like!

Didn't the mower come with bags attached so that you don't get grass splotches?
