My LJ dead...yes...why...cuz Master's is probably the first time I really _have_ to study and work hard to get anywhere. With the added stress that my director is pretty much paying for my tuition fees, I have to show some level of performance (student ROI?? nice concept). So what's going on, what have I been up to?... Here's a jist of it all ( Read more... )

Hell is this:

At the end of a lesson, after explaining everything thrice (using different words & sentence structure each time), giving a dozen varied examples, demonstrating the work to be done step by step, and summarizing the whole shebang (twice!), asking "Is everything clear? Are there any questions?"

...

and getting this answer:

"I don't understand... What do we have to do now?"

AUGH!

If it's this _one_ person, you deal with this person separately by closely listening/profiling their personality so you can come up with an (counter)example they will understand. If it's the entire class...well..then...tell them to get COFFE at the break..no THC or Ncotine ;)

All I can tell ya is that you better be nice. I just recently went to a friend of a friend's house party to cross paths with some of my most "demanding" students. Patience paid off and I was far from despised ;)

Mine are teenagers, I don't want them high on caffeine!

caspianxi's cousin was in my sec 2 General History class this year. She rarely had her assignments completed on time, talked to everyone around her during lessons, and rolled her eyes at me frequently. I usually called her on a few different things each class. I gave her demerits and then detention. I know she thinks I'm a hardass.

But apparently I'm an interesting hardass, because she complained to her cousin that History class was so very boring since Ms. Knight took her sick leave.

Ha!

Ohhhh.... yeah, true, I keep forgetting that I ma not teaching to high-school students...then again... I guess that, at that age, only a nice-looking male would get their attention and probably hamper irrational hardassness... as /me ponders own's hardassness commented by half-rational U students ;)

And if they think you're hardass...just show them the whip to show them you're on your "good" day :P
