I read Chat Magazine. I know it's women's real life drivel, and there are probably more worthwhile magazines to read in this world, but the shitty stories and the crap puzzles do wonders for my sanity at work lunchtimes. There is a section called Blimey! That's Clever where people send in dreadful tips and get paid £15 for each one. 1

The top tip of the week, however, can win £200. And some of these are often pretty good. But the latest one got me rather riled, and I had to write to Chat to sort out this miscreant.

Hello,

I was reading issue 4 dated 1st Feb 2007, specifically the Blimey! That's Clever section. Some of the tips are quite inspired, however I was shocked to discover someone has ripped you off. The £200 star tip for this week, where Julie Mills from Bedford claims she "made this eyecatching stuffed dragon", where infact she bought it from Ikea for £7.99. I know, because I bought one for a friend of mine.

I have attached a picture of said dragon. Also, a link to the Ikea site where you can buy one: http://www.ikea.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/ProductDisplay?topcategoryId=15567&catalogId=10103&storeId=7&productId=53095&langId=-20&categoryId=16119&chosenPartNumber=10078239

Apologies for the url length.

I am saddened that a blatant liar has tricked you. The only thing she did was to glue it to the wall. Coming out of a bin lid.

Thank you for your time,

Jenna Hunter

I'm appalled that someone won £200 for a load of bollocks. I wish I had a picture of the article in the magazine, but I feel my email has described it efficiently enough. The tip itself reads "If you can't find any nice pictures or displays to put up on your lounge wall, why not make your own. I made this eyecatching stuffed dragon. It looks great, and my son Micky, 12, thinks so, too." And there's a picture of this kid grinning like a gimp.

I think I'd be okay if she only got £15, but £200! It's taking the piss. Wherever you are, Julie Mills 2, I will catch you out. You're a liar and a thief, ripping off my favourite magazine.

1 Such marvels include "When replacing your washing machine, keep the glass front of your old machine to make a great potty for under your bed" and "If you have brown hair and want to give it a bit of a lift for a night out, rinse it in cold coffee. It'll look shiny and healthy. Just remember to bring an umbrella in case it rains!"

2 Probably in Bedford...
