So are people excited about Gen COn Oz?
Are we going? Are we submitting events? Are we bringing our A game?

There really doesn't seem to be any information about what they're looking for or the structure of the Con itself. Difficult to get excited about a big blank page.

A friend told me last Tuesday night the GenCon may not be happening... He had heard that the previous Friday was the final date for submission of games to be run and vertually none had been submitted.
I don't know how true this is.
A lot of whispers have been about the fact that it i snot going to be anything like the GenCon's in America, where one the major draw cards is being able to get your hands on obscure and unique merchandise...

The reason they haven't been getting game submissions in is because they haven't had a means to submit games until very recently. halloranelder tells me that event submissions opened a couple of weeks ago, but I haven't been keeping a close eye on the website, so just didn't know. Last night I received an email advising me that submissions were open, so presumably submissions aren't yet closed if they have only just advised me that events can be submitted now.

Being a Gen Con, though, it might run even with very few events. Gen Con is really a gaming trade show, and makes its money off trader fees - a very different model to a typical Australian convention. If Gen Con Oz works the same way as the other Gen Cons, actual gaming may be a secondary consideration, and so events might not be so vital.

I'll be going. I might even go if the con is cancelled (but see the other comment I'll post in a minute). That's because it's back home in Brisbane, and it's a good excuse to visit friends and family.

Ok, so I snuck back onto LJ to drop you a line, Caitlin:

Have you seen the free exhibition at the Vic State Library on the Medieval Imagination? If you and Greg are going, I'd love to tag along to enjoy your insights, given your expertise in things medieval.
