I'll post more coherantly on the subject later, but for now, my suggestions for everyone who cares about such things are to back up their ljs via many of the different options available (for a simple pdf, LJBook.com is a good choice), pop over to the alternatives to lj such as GreatestJournal or InsaneJournal and grab your username, in case you ( Read more... )

As I already said to you on IM, you would think they'd have learned their lesson by now. Some people (not you, of course) have taken this a little too seriously. But given that LJ is a service that a lot of us end up paying for in some way or another, I can't completely blame them. It's not the best of business practices to make a large portion of your customer base angry.

Personally I think most Harry Potter slash is kind of ridiculous, but I don't see the problem with the existence fan art of Snape and over-16 Harry. (Even if it makes me cringe *shudder*). And the whole thing with them deleting the user's non-fanart journal is sketchy.

This isn't enough for me personally to switch servers, but it doesn't give me a lot of confidence in either Live Journal or its partnership with Six Apart. Once again, you would think they learned their lesson last time.

I don't know if you've seen what's going on or not yet, but there have been several accounts deleted with no warning, despite the fact they haven't updated the TOS yet or clarified what they're doing. I have links with more info if you're interested. <3

Ahhh. Yeah, I think I'm caught up on it now. It's funny, because I'm more on the fringe of folks who are affected by this, so I don't hear about it as readily as I might have years ago.
