“Kyuhyun!” A girl hissed into his ear.
“Huh?” Kyuhyun jerked awake. “What, Sooyoung?”
"Miss Kwon asked you for the answer of square root 3^2 plus 4^2.” Sooyoung whispered hurriedly. “The answer is five.”
"It’s five, Miss Kwon.” He answered quickly, running his hands through his hair.
“Correct, Kyuhyun.” The Maths teacher glanced at him sternly. “Everyone, please do the sums on page 138.” The class grumbled and moodily started to do the sums. Yawning, Kyuhyun finished them all and slumped onto the table once more. The teacher inwardly sighed as she noticed Kyuhyun dozing off again. It wasn’t his fault, she knew. Striding over to him, she prodded him awake. “Cho Kyuhyun!” She said. “Sleeping again?”
Kyuhyun mumbled while yawning, “Sorry, Miss Kwon. I was up all night, you know why.”
"It’s okay. But you should get more sleep, okay?”
“Yes Miss Kwon.” He nodded. Miss Kwon walked away, and Kyuhyun was about to (sneakily) finish the sums on the next page when a hand stopped him. “Kyuhyun?”
“What now?” Kyuhyun sighed in irritation.
“Why was Miss Kwon so lenient with you? She usually scolds sleepy heads.” Sooyoung slammed her pen down as she finished checking her answers. “Plus, I got more answers correct than you. You owe me an ice- cream cone.”
“Fine, Shikshin. And it’s none of your business.” Kyuhyun growled, twirling his pen.
“Kyuhyun, are you hiding something from me?” Sooyoung whispered, feeling a tad hurt.
“Yes. Look, if I tell you, it’ll just make everything even worse.” Signing, Kyuhyun ran his fingers through his hair.
“Okay…” Sooyoung grumbled while she packed up her things as the bell rang, signalling the end of the day.
Kyuhyun smiled in relief. “Thanks, Sooyoungie. See you tomorrow!” He dashed out of the room.
Sooyoung’s POV
Being the curious person I am, I followed him. After following him for an hour, he finally stopped in front of a wooden shack, located next to a rocky road in a forest. I’m quite proud of myself, being able to keep up. Just when I thought I’d succeeded in following him, I tripped over a rock. “Ouch!” I gripped my knee, tears nearly coming out. Damn! I just blew my cover!
“Sooyoung? What- you followed me here?” Kyuhyun stared me in disbelief. “You pabo! Run!”
“Why? I’m not going anywhere until you tell me what’s going on!” I yelled back at him, trying miserably to stand up with my knee hurting like crazy.
“Sooyoung! RUN!” He screamed. He strode over to me, set me onto my feet and continued, “Go away! Please!”
RAWR! We both turned and I couldn’t help but scream. Something had broken down the door to the wooden shack and had run out. “A beast! Ah!!!” I shrieked, starting to run away. Wait. How about Kyuhyun? “Kyuhyun?” Glancing behind me, I saw the beast attack Kyuhyun. Kyuhyun swiftly blocked every swipe and jab at him. “Changmin, relax! It’s me, Kyuhyunnie! Your brother!” He said soothingly, taking a few steps back. Surprisingly, the beast calmed down and nuzzled Kyuhyun.
What? That thing is Kyuhyun’s brother?!
“Kyuhyun?” I said loudly. Both of them turned to me, one horrified, one surprised and-
Furious.
The beast charged at me. Too stunned to move, I stood there, staring at the approaching beast.
“Soo!” I felt someone slam into me. Finding myself on the forest floor, I stared at my savoir, Kyuhyun. He was shielding me protectively, glaring at the beast. “Changmin! Do not attack her!” The beast roared, making me cringe. “Cho Changmin, do not attack her!” He snarled.
The beast glared at me once more, then backed off. “Kyu-Kyuhyun? Wh-Who is that?”
“My brother, Cho Changmin. Changmin, this is my best friend in school. You know, Shikshin?” To my utter amazement, the beast grunted and nodded, sitting onto the forest floor and started to eat the burger Kyuhyun brought for him.
“So…?” I raised an eyebrow at the visibly relieved Kyuhyun. Why is he like this? And why does Miss Kwon know?”
He scooted closer to me. “Miss Kwon knew because she was his class teacher. Changmin used to love a girl called Seohyun. She was so beautiful; no one could take their eyes off her. One day, he finally asked her out. They dated for a while, nearly two years.”
“And then?”
“Changmin broke up with her as he realised he didn’t love her anymore. Seohyun revealed the truth behind her perfect looks: she was a four thousand year old witch who had not loved for three thousand years. She was so angry; she cast a spell upon him, cursing him into a hairy beast who’d slaughter every girl he met.”
“Then why didn’t he try harder to kill me?”
“She forgot that I had a special connection with my brother. So he couldn’t harm my, uh, best friend. Which is you.” Kyuhyun sneaked a peek at me.
“Then why throw yourself in front of me when you knew?”
Instead of answering me, he called out to his brother, “Changmin? Mind excusing us for a few minutes?”
He grunted and lumbered away. I swore he was chuckling though. When he was out of sight, Kyuhyun turned to me. “Are you sweating?” I giggled at the sight of him.
“I-I’m not!” He pouted, rubbing the sweats away. “So what do you want to tell me?”
“Sooyoung? I think I’m in love with you.”
Kyuhyun’s POV
Crap. Now I’ve done it.
She just sat there, mouth wide open. Yes, it’s really cute, but I need a response. Like, NOW. “Hello? Sooyoungie?”
Then, she punched me. “Ow! What was that for?” I protested, rubbing my arm.
“You blundering idiot! Why didn’t you tell me sooner?” She tried to scowl, but chose to laugh her head off instead.
“W-What?”
“I love you, Kyuhyun.”
I couldn't help but smile. She rested her head on my shoulder, sighing in content. "And Kyuhyun?"
"Yes, Sooyoungie?"
"You still owe me an ice-cream."
