Freaking supreme court...

See, this is why I don't like the Supreme Court: the answer to money not to the ideals that this country was founded on. For instance, today they ruled that a city could seize land for private economic development. While the government has always had eminent domain, it was usually only used to help build infrastructure, such as highways and the ( Read more... )

It's actually not as bad as it sounds. Yes, they can take your property but there must be hearings and whatnot and if in the end they take your place, they give you a big payoff. It still sucks, but honestly it will happen very rarely.
There was a good article on the whole thing on CNN somewhere.

Interestingly enough, it was the liberal judges on the supreme court that voted for this. I thought that was a little strange.

Alright, chances are that this won't affect that many people. Regardless, it still goes against the fundametal principles that this country was founded on.

Also, consider this. The people who are going to suffer from this are those that can't afford good enough lawyers to really fight it in court. Secondly, even though they might compensate the people evicted, and pretty well, a lot of the people who will be evicted are from poor areas, and the people there can't afford to live anywhere else. This is the case with the people in connecticut that this whole thing came from. No matter how much they pay them, they can't live in a better palce because the taxes are just that much higher. It's sad, but the people who are shit out of luck to begin with are the pmes who are ging to suffer the most because of this.

And yeah, I don't get this liberal judges voting for it thing. That makes no sense to me. Fact of the matter is that I can't really understand how ANY of them voted for this. How they can think this is right is beyond me.
