Anybody want to recommend some good comics or books? I have a car today and I'm taking advantage of that and cashing my tax refund to go to the bookstore. It's been forever

Hm.... ever heard of an artist named Gipi? He is from Italia and he writes the sweetest little stories ever. I'm sure you would adore his sketchy style as much as I do.
In the way of music, I confess I fail and am still enjoying your last gift to me of new bands. I heart Rilo Kiley.
pft, you weren't whining O.o it'd take a lot more then that to hit whiney annoying levels. Besides, if you can't whine in your journal, where can you whine? *grin*
Only thing I can suggest is the darkness series (but that's because croaky got me hooked on it *chuckles*) and since it's an american comic, it kind of... has epic storylines that go on for ages and are scattered across several cross overs and so on. In otherwords, are a bit of a pain in the ass to collect.
Ahahaha, oh man, those are the ones I always wish my library had. "Epic" stories get so expensive (but maybe if I can find it at the bookstore I can read it there; they don't seem to mind that). Thank you for the recommendation! :3
Well on the plus side, they're all in trade paperbacks now? So you can at least get the story without having a couple hundred little comics scattered about?
Have you heard of Blankets by Craig Thompson? I actually haven't read it yet (I read like 10 pages of it while I was at the bookstore months ago but was too broke at the time and now all of the bookstores are out of stock!), but the art is just amazing, and the 10 pages were amazing as well. Here are some preview pages. I assume you could flip through it when you drop by the bookstore to get a better feel of it? Or are your bookstore people psycho about browsing? :s
Anyway, good luck with the search for reading material! :D
I haven't, but I looked it up on Amazon and I'm intrigued. Unfortunately they look to be somewhat expensive so I'll have to wait until I have more money and/or can find it at the bookstore and actually have time to read there. *tear* Thanks so much for the rec. :'3 <3 (mmm chunky rice. it's seriously one of my favorite comics ever.)
Haha the first time I read chunky rice was in the car with my parents on the drive home from school last year and I just started crying and I was too embarrassed to say why. I love that book so much, man.
Oh hi, I meant to say hello when I added you. Which I've been meaning to do for a while - your arts are just fantastic!
I'm not really sure what your tastes are, but Fables by Bill Willingham is pretty great; solid art, interesting concept, and good storytelling. Scud by Rob Schrab is also excellent for sheer crazy awesome and very unique art, but it's kinda hard to find. For something more real-life oriented, Same Difference bu Derek Kirk Kim is a gem, beautifully drawn and thoughtfully written. Oh, and of course, any of the Flight anthologies are wonderful.
Haha, thanks! I really enjoy your work as well; I added you back. :3
You know, I'm not really sure what my tastes are, either - I tend to enjoy sort of poetic stories, I guess, but anything goes. All of these sound interesting, though (I've heard conflicting stories about Fables, so I think I'm going to have to check it out and decide for myself). Thanks so much for the recommendations. :3

Have you seen anything by Paul Pope? I love his style so much. Try Heavy Liquid and The One Trick Ripoff.
