What came first, the chicken or the egg?

the egg that contained the genetically different living thing that was different than either of its parents. it is not of my knowledge that things can evolve while alive, so that must mean that they evolve in generations in genetics. so there had to have been an egg that held the first chicken. hence the egg before the chicken.
