Gerry proposed an experiment: No entertainment for a week. He says that I don't understand quiting smoking and that I'd have remove all forms of entertainment from my life in order to understand the anxiety. That's a huge portion of my life. I spend half my day at work distracting myself from the frustration of how much I hate my job. The ( Read more... )

Not needing to know what quitting smoking is like is a rightful boon of not becoming a smoker. Inflicting other injuries on your enjoyment of life to gain comprehension of it is perverse. Let the smokers suffer their just desserts while subject to wide-eyed incomprehension from their wiser peers and future generations.

i've quit smoking before. it's NOTHING like self-imposed isolation. Gerry doesn't seem to know what he's talking about.

while a week of no entertainment could prove to be an interesting time to write, take stock of certain things in your life, get the house clean, learn to knit, whatever, it doesn't immediately give you some sort of blinding insight into how hard it is to quit smoking. when i quit i was working all the time and i went home and played video games and watched movies and talked to people on the phone and answered emails and got a lot of writing done. there was never a moment where i put a bucket over my head and sat in a corner for seven days.

I've cut off myself from facebook at work. After work, maybe I could limit the amount of netflix I'm allowed to watch. There's plenty of work and cleaning to be done at home, but I need to have time to relax too. Maybe instead of playing games while watching a show I'll work on the resume instead.

Here's an update: sugar thing failed. I had some lemonade tea with dinner and ice cream after. We'll try again tomorrow. The not doing facebook at work is doing well, but I still let myself check it twice a day. Maybe that's just practical. We'll see. ^_^

Ok. Sugar it is. Starting today no candy, ice cream, donuts, hot chocolate, sweet tea, soda, etc. for seven days. The sweet tea is going to be the most difficult, I think, but we'll see.
