buy a new bike? wouldnt that avail the a, b, c, and d problems? talk to your bank about a LOC or simple interest auto loan to pay for it so you dont have to pay interest for time you dont have the loan open and just pay it off once you get the insurance money in...

Problem is, buying a "new" bike is like $5k, another $1k for gear on top of that. If the only money I'm getting for the insurance is $3k ...

$3k is a lot of money, especially so on credit.

Try 511.org. They have an outstanding ride-share site that you might be able to hook up with someone to carpool.

fair enough.. i figured youd be able to find another (used) bike for the about the 3k you'd be getting back.

also that $35/day has gotta come from somewhere...puttin it towards a new bike sounds like a better thing to do then dump it on gas/parking/etc

aw! I'm sorry to hear about the loss of Samantha. It sounds like you should at least look around at replacement options, I mean I know that besides all of the practical reasons, you did enjoy riding, and that's the kind of thing that makes a difference - with the amount of time you commute, you better enjoy it.
