Everything we go through is our responsibility for the most part. Taking that responsibility is the first step towards changing the course of our destiny.

eh, it's a passing feeling we all experience. I agree with ben that what happens to a person is their own doing, BUT it's a mistake to take that idea a step further to say that life is under your control, that you need to grab the reins, etc etc. the mind and its delusions of grandeur ...

don't forget how you got to where you are -- the same way everybody does, by trying to make things go well, by trying to experience pleasure and avoid pain. it is the obvious thing to do. it's super addictive! what, honestly, could you have done differently or 'better' ? whatever you did seemed like the right thing to do at the time. hindsight pretends that there was some way you could have had access to the future, to how things turned out. that information was not available at the time!

more of the same is not going to make you happier than you'd otherwise be. there is no 'otherwise,' it is just a mental fantasy. your life is your life, and the challenge is to love yourself as you find yourself.
