“So,” Ginny said, handing Zach a brownie as she placed an imaginary microphone under his mouth. “When did you finally realise you were gay?”

“Ha ha, Gin, very funny,” Zach replied, the brownie muffling his sarcasm. “One date does not mean I’m gay.”

“One date does not,” Ginny agreed, shoving an entire brownie in her mouth and conveniently forgetting everything her mother had taught her about ladylike behaviour and etiquette. “One date with a man does.”

“Actually, technically, it could make him bisexual,” said Neville, coming to sit on the other side of Ginny. “Or just very confused.” Zach and Ginny turned to look at him. He blushed. “I’m sorry for butting in, it’s just I just came from work and overheard your conversation and kind of…” He trailed off with a flop of his hands.

“But Nev’s right Gin,” Zach said, giving Neville one last glance. “I am confused. I still like girls; I think girls are great. I mean they’re wobbly in all the right places. Great for cooking and cleaning and stuff, yeah?” Zach grinned. Ginny frowned.

“Zacharias Smith,” she growled. “You say that once more and I will knock you from here to Timbuktu and back.”

Zach shifted. Ginny could look very scary, even when seated on a step outside an art gallery with a red hat on and a lapful of brownies, giving out advice. He guessed it was a Weasley trade; he had gotten some scary looks off Ron as well. Then again, everyone did it, so maybe it was just him.

“But Gin seriously,” he continued, his brow furrowing into a frown. “I just thought it was a friendly drink. It was a friendly drink. Just a friendly drink and a friendly snog as well.”

“Well I just think you should stay out of it for as long as possible,” Neville said, worried. “That’s my theory in life anyway.”

“Do you want to hear what I think,” Ginny said, shoving another brownie in her mouth.

“Not really, no,” Zach mumbled, looking down at the pavement below and kicking a stone down the steps.

“I think,” Ginny continued, as if she hadn’t heard him, “that you should go out on another date with him. And I think that you should snog him again. And also that you should bring me to watch. Purely for advice reasons.”

“Ginny Weasley!” Zach said, pretending to be shocked. “You little pervert!”

In the ensuing mock-fight, Zach somehow managed to knock Ginny’s brownies off her lap and roll down the steps and into the gutter, causing her to stop indignantly.

“Sacrilege!” she yelled, launching herself at Zach again, causing him to fall over and land on the pathway.

Neville sighed as he stepped over the couple rolling on the pavement.

“I wonder what Seamus has done for tea?”
