“I want….”
A hand. Gripping. Moving. Steadying.
“Yes.”
A kiss. Sure. Quiet. Soft.
“Forever.”
A noise. Choked off. Broken. Full.
“Me too.”

When Nate wakes up, two clear ice-blue eyes are staring at him.
“Did you mean it?” The eyes look worried, the mouth unsure, so different from the night before.
“Yes,” Nate speaks without missing a beat. “Everything.”
The eyes close for a moment. When they open the blue is softer, sure once more.

They’re at a party.
Nate is talking to Mike on the patio. His green eyes flicking in Brad’s direction every couple of minutes. He knows Mike knows where he’s looking; he’s decided not to care.
Brad’s talking to Ray. Even from where he is, Nate can see the indulgent look in his eyes. Knows that Brad loves it.
Nate is smiling. Whether it’s at something Mike is saying, or because of Brad, it doesn’t matter. What matters is that Brad is now looking at him smiling too, indulgence turning to something else, something stronger.
