Hello... so I recently (as in just now) joined Runaway Tales, one of the current featured comms on lj. As part of my intro, I gave a break-down of the characters I intend to use and the world they inhabit. So look forward to some stories centering around these cool cats soon.
Thiiiis particular world is somewhat of gaslamp fantasy. The majority of the world exists as wilderness- wild, untamed, and unpredicatable- surging with dangerous magic and fearsome beasts. Some do live in these wilds, manipulating the magic and the terrain or living along side it. The majority of "civilized" society, however, lives in walled cities which have advanced through a mixture of magic and science to the rough equivalent of the Victorian era. These mixtures have resulted in both great aids (such as flying trains that connect the cities) to...less helpful ideas (such as clock-work goliaths that spew magical flames aross the land and wipe out cites). And floating above it all is an exotic land of silks and serpents far different from anything found down below.
Argent- A mysterious, foreign aristocrat. Although it isn't confirmed that Argent is truly an aristocrat, the stipends he offers those who serve him seem to offer little other explanation. He employs Alfonse, Posetta, and Hammond.
Alfonse- A preist of the Halidem and older brother to Posetta. Alfonse is a kind, giving soul, to the point of fault. He believes wholly in justice and isn't willing to risk his safety for his beliefs. He can at times be rather naive and preachy, but only because he's led a sheltered life in the comfort of urban life. He's easily moved to emotion, especially embarassment or frustration. The only thing Alfonse cares about more than the Halidem is his younger sister, Posetta.
Posetta- A singer-cum-adventurer and Alfonse's younger sister. Posetta is impulsive, flighty, and bright. While not as naive as her brother, she is far from world-wise. She ran off from comfort for adventure without a care, because she knew that Alfonse would soon follow to protect her. Although she often teases him and complains about his over-protective nature, Posetta is grateful for her brother's support and love. She dreams of finding glory, fun, power, and adventure throughout the course of her travels.
Hammond- A shifter* mercenary from the nothern wilds. Originally a soldier in the northern army, Hammond deserted to escape the guilt of his war crimes. He was hired by Hammond to add muscle to Posetta and Alfonse's team. Although taciturn and sometimes down-right grumpy, he does his best to look after Posetta and Alfonse.
Sighere- A swashbuckler, lover, and general layabout. Although intelligent and skilled, Sighere has yet to make much of himself in the broad sense. He's constantly coming up with hair-brained schemes and half-formed plans for changing the world. His devil-may-care personality annoys the hell out of Saable, his lover. Sighere oozes charisma from every pore and loves dancing and sex. XD His motto is: "Live fast, die young, and have no regrets."
Saable- Sighere's lover and a cleric of Veneria. Saable gets angry easily. Really easily. Which Sighere finds cute. Saable is an elf, gifted with a long life span, and often despairs that he will live long after Sighere's death. To that end, he is searching for a way to extend Sighere's life. He has the power to raise the dead as zombies, skeletons, and the like.
Rath- Sighere's retarded talking wolf. He has an insatiable lust for prostitutes, porn, and belly rubs.
"Gramps"- Sighere's mother. Could kick your ass. Hell, she could kick Chuck Norris's ass. Strict, but warm and loving. Just mind your p's and q's.
The Haliden- A collective god-being of purity and good. Its followers preach peace and right wrongs when they can.
Veneria- A goddess of death revered primarily by elves and necromancers.
Masque- A near-forgotten deity shrowded in ritual and mystery. He may have connections to immortality among mortals.
*Shifters are a race found almost exclusively in the northern wilds. They are tainted with the blood of lycanthropes, which lends them a more bestial appearance and the ability to tap into their primal, animal side to fly into a battle fury.
