On May 4 we remember.

On May 5 we celebrate.

In the Netherlands the 5th of May is a national holiday. On that day we celebrate the end of the second world war. I agree. We should never stop remembering those who gave their lives or celebrating the freedom that we have due to the loss of so many other lives. People take their freedom for granted, but it so many places in the world there isn't that freedom. Why take it for granted when so many other people don't have it? And one way we can not take it for granted is by remembering those who gave their lives, their money, their everything so that we, people that didn't even exist when they were fighting, would be able to have the freedom that they didn't.

Thank you for sharing your family's memories and experiences with everyone. It's through that sharing that we can learn and remember and work to prevent that from happening again. We remember and honor the sacrifices of the people who gave their lives, their own freedom, so that we may all enjoy ours. Freedom is never free, but it is worth every tear, every labor, every drop of blood. Thank you for sharing, for reminding everyone that we do need to remember, to thank, to celebrate the courage that your countrymen and women showed.

*hugs* You have at least one more honoring and remembering what happened today those many, many years ago.

Thank you for posting this. You're right, we should never stop remembering and celebrating, because once we do, we start taking freedom for granted, and we attach less importance to it, until we lose it again.

Thank you for sharing your stories, too.
