Day Trip

We spent Saturday in Galena, IL -- one of my favorite day trips. It felt GREAT to get away, even if it was just for a day. I feel like I shook the cobwebs out of my head and can concentrate on my writing again. Maybe I need to take more day trips in the near future... We live 2 hours from Galena and went there for a family day trip last year. We found some ok hiking trails. What do you do there, if you don't mind me asking? When we lived in Tahoe, we were 2 minutes from famous hiking trails and hiked all the time. Last fall we went to Starved Rock and had a wonderful perfect day!!!!
BTW re: your last post: I haven't read any HP... my daughter loves them and I enjoy them through her. But I do read almost all the others she recommends!

We spend the day shopping downtown Galena. Lots of cool boutiques, book stores, antique shops, candy shops, Art galleries, kitchen/gourmet shops (my husband LOVES those!) gift shops, toy stores... We have a nice lunch and just take our time strolling through town. There's also a museum and a Mark Twain theater that does shows in the evenings. I don't like shopping for clothes or shoes but I love these kind of specialty shops!
