Like others, I'm disappointed about the way Slytherin is seen as pretty fundamentally evil within the book - none of the Slytherins except Slughorn stay to fight against the Death Eaters - and they are still unintegrated 19 years later, if Ron's comments, and those of Harry's kids, are typical. Harry is the only one who expresses an

Snape... remains a character of unexpected depth. In the end, still didn't like him, but respected him quite a bit.
And you'd think they'd work out the House System probably isn't such a crash-hot idea.
The tight focus of the epilogue worked for me... it'd be nice to think the Ministry got sorted out after, it'd be nice to see where wizarding society went, but at the same time we aren't being locked into anything, so once should JKR ever decide she wants to explore this world further, we've got places to go.

One of my problems with the depiction of Snape is that his pining for someone for 15 or more years is a bit worrisome. Surely he's got the balls enough to get beyond that, mourn her but not let it rule her life (like Harry seems able to do)?

He also carries a grudge like a champion, which was probably good enough to keep him working against Voldemort.
Plus, not really pining most of the time... apart from the odd attack of sentimentality, he did seem to be getting on with life in his own anti-social fashion.

36 hours on Benzedrine comes to mind, or terminal caffeine poisoning!
Given my slow progress in reading DH I've tripped across spoilers, but somehow it doesn't worry me. What does is that JK opens up ever more inconsistencies in her universe - if she ever goes back to it well I don't see how she can. After all which version of a given spell charm or potion is the 'official' one
To all things there are limits but JK's limits are to fit the need of a particular situation and they change from scene to scene. This makes my ability to suspend disbelief and just follow the story a very fragile thing.

I didn't really notice any inconsistencies in spells & potions - I'd be interested to hear what ones you found - but I did notice someone on the bottom of page 58 appeared to be using magic, when they shouldn't have been able to. verylisa concludes that DH is a second rather than final draft, and I'm a think I agree with her - check her LJ when you finish.
