He usually went to sit on the bent paopu tree when he wanted to think, but ever since he had ice cream with Xion and Axel, Sora found that he liked the clocktower as a place to think as well. He focused on it as he went through the town, a stack of photos in a little backpack slung over his shoulders. He wanted to get started on his journal before he started to forget and put it off. Sora breathed in deep and walked up to the platform in front of the station--and then he paused.

Oh. Roxas was already there--

or was he? Sora frowned slightly and dropped his backpack.

No... that wasn't Roxas, was it? He didn't have his coat on. Last time he'd seen the other, he had it on. "Hey!" He called, both hands around his mouth to amplify the sound.

He certainly didn't expect that reaction.

Most people were surprised, yes, when they saw the Keyblade in his possession... but this had been the first time someone reacted like that when he just mentioned. When his blade's summoned, Sora smiles a little, though he looks surprised. Surprised in a good way, like finding a new good friend that he could bond with. Is that the tie he felt between them?

He held his hand out and summoned Ultima Weapon, grinning. "Yeah, the Keyblade."

It's not like he's met a million Keyblade wielders in his life- a handful, yes, and perhaps they are more frequent than in Sora's time; but there is surprise there, a joy, like he's just found out that one little kid he used to play with all the time had grown up and achieved something really great.

That was...that was exactly what it felt like. Pride.

"Wow..." The corners of his mouth turn into a smile, looking back at Sora with a new sense of respect-- kinship. "So you traveled too? Who was your master?"

It felt so much happier to see that reflected on Ven's face, that Sora's happiness increased tenfold.

... until the questions began, and then he looked politely curious. "My master? What's a master?"

"You didn't have a master!?"

His second surprise of the day, even more of a shock than the last. He'd met other keybladers, sure; but not ones that weren't either apprentices, or masters. Was Sora a rogue?

"A master teaches you how to use your blade-- and lots more than that. When you're ready, they put you through your Mark of Mastery." Tentative, gonna hang onto some spiraling hope for you here, Sora- "Do you know what that is?

If the incredibly blank look on Sora's face when he mentioned the Mark of Mastery was any indication, perhaps his answer--"Nope... what is it?"--was perhaps more of a glance into it.

"D'you really need a master? I've been fighting with my best friend since I was little, that's how I know how to use it... and I learned how to do neat stuff when I was using it. And is the Mark of Mastery really important?"

"It's a test, to see if you're ready to be a Master!" There's more involved in it than that, a lot more, but for Ventus that simple description is enough. "Being a Keyblade Master is my dream!"

He shakes his head, continuing up the staircase and glancing back at Sora with a smile.

"It's pretty important, yeah. There's stuff that, as a Master, you get all sorts of knowledge about. Keyblade lore, passed down for generations. It's proof that your heart is truly strong, and pure."

"You aren't one already?"

He frowned a little as Ven passed him, suddenly feeling a little out of the loop. "How come that's proof?" He asked, following close behind. "Isn't that unfair?"

"Not at all!" Oh Sora, you're so...out of the loop here. They reach the top of the clock tower, Ventus pausing for a brief moment to admire the view- it really is something- before turning his attention back to Sora, the importance and excitement he has for the topic causing him to wave his hands about in quick, descriptive gestures.

"It's all of your training, all of your time spent with your blade, proving that you know what you can do, are capable of whatever comes your way. It's-" He smiles a little, looking down to the ground below them, thinking of his Master, the person who'd taken care of him for so long. "It's proof, a message. From your master to you, that they think you're ready for anything. Just to take the test itself- it's a really big thing."

All of his excitement shouldn't be leaving Sora with a bit of, well... jealousy. He missed out on something with the Keyblade--something that was exciting and it looked like it meant a lot.

"I guess I can't take it," he ended up admitting. "I never had training. Or a master. I never heard about a test."

Oh. Ventus falters a bit, rubbing the back of his neck and thinking quickly. Sora looks a little downhearted, like he's said the wrong thing, instead of right. It must be pretty bad, not having someone there to look out for you...

"You know, I have a friend who's a Master. I bet she'd teach you."

Sora blinks once when he hears those words. "Really? She's here?" he exclaimed, excited, almost bouncing where he was but being careful not to be too close to the edge.
