I'm paranoid that the progress is too slow, you don't think so, do you? I'd really hate to have things become annoyingly slow. There is a plot to this and there is intent with every chapter and whatnot, I promise. I just hope that it hasn't become excessively boring yet as I am on chapter 13 and Daejae are both stupid and dancing around each other like fools.
Previous Chapter “Hey, Daehyun-hyung, how come Heehyoung-ssi hasn’t come around?” The innocent maknae asked as he put all his homework away in the book bag, moving to sit next to the leader who was reclining in his seat with a beer in hand, going over papers that had to do with work as he was often guilty of doing for the sake of caring for his group. Though the question from Junhong had caused him to pause as it was something that he had been wondering about for the past few days but had been hesitant on asking.
Daehyun glanced up at the maknae, having been looking over Youngjae’s shoulder as he played a game on his phone. There was a small pang in his chest as he was reminded of her, but he had known that it was for the best the moment that Youngjae had stated that she wasn’t good for him. He would alaways take his friend’s word for it. He trusted Youngjae with his life, but that didn’t mean that breaking up with the girl he could see himself loving wasn’t painful. He shrugged. “I broke up with her.”
Himchan quickly set his beer down. “You did what?!” He was hardly quiet about it, but Youngjae found it easy to ignore him. He felt happy and content that Daehyun was no longer seeing that woman and he had his friend back. They could spend time together once again and he didn’t have to worry about competing with that woman he never liked. “Please don’t tell me you fucked her and then dumped her. ‘Cause that’d be cruel even for me.”
Yongguk looked up at his best friend and glared. “Language, Himchan.” He then glanced to the teenager who sat next to him who had a small blush on his cheeks, moving closer to the man he looked up to. His arm slid around Junhong’s shoulder after the papers were set in his lap so he could read and hold his favorite maknae close.
Daehyun rolled his eyes and tried to act as neutral as possible. “No, Himchan, I didn’t have sex with her-sorry, Junhong-ah. It just wasn’t working out between us.” He then turned his attention back to what Youngjae was doing and Himchan figured that meant that was the end of the conversation.
Not long after, Yongguk was herding the maknae’s into bed. Junhong had an exam tomorrow and while he had studied well with the help of his hyungs, Yongguk wanted to make sure the boy had enough rest to do his best. Himchan went into the kitchen for a late night snack and Yongguk had joined him after making sure Jongup and Junhong were in bed. This left Daehyun and Youngjae on the couch with the TV at a low volume since Youngjae’s battery on his phone had gotten too low from the games he had been playing.
“Want to head to bed, precious boy?” Daehyun asked his friend who had been drooping against him little by little. The only reason he used the petname was because he knew the two in the kitchen wouldn’t be able to hear him.
Youngjae considered the question for a short moment before nodding and pushing himself to stand.
It took fifteen minutes for the both of them to wash their faces, brush their teeth and get into the pajamas, though Daehyun only stripped down to his boxers as that was usually the only thing he slept in. As Daehyun was climbing into bed, he hesitated and looked over to his friend who was plugging in his phone, unmaking his bed and about to shut off his light.
“Do you…want to come sleep with me?” The question shocked Youngjae as it had been weeks since they had shared a bed, especially since he had gotten with that woman. It no longer had seemed appropriate even though they were only best friends. “I know you’re not sick anymore, but…I could use some…comfort.”
Youngjae didn’t even feel any guilt as he knew what the comfort was needed for. Daehyun had really liked this woman and had wanted to be with her and it had been a good relationship, but Youngjae was selfish. He wouldn’t allow that for whatever reason he couldn’t admit to. “Yeah…of course, mister.” Youngjae tossed down the blanket he had lifted and shut off his bedside light before moving over the single bed in which Daehyun slept on. He moved in on the side that he usually did and waited for Daehyun to join him, which he did just a couple seconds later once the light was off.
With Youngjae in plaid pajama pants and Daehyun in boxers, when they pressed together, their bare chests touched and only Youngjae blushed. Daehyun didn’t notice. They could barely see the outline of each other’s features in the dark like this.
“She…really wasn’t good for me?” Daehyun spoke softly, glad that Youngjae couldn’t see the sad look in his eyes.
Youngjae still felt no guilt. “I don’t think she was, no.”
Daehyun sighed softly. He began to chew on his bottom lip and Youngjae could hear him. The younger man smiled softly, sadly, and lift his hand to pull the abused lip free.
“Sorry…” Youngjae shook his head and pulled his hand away. “I just…I really liked her. I mean…enough to lose my virginity to her…”
Youngjae tensed. “Wait…you guys have…you guys had sex?” He’s not sure why he felt a lump in his throat and a pit in his stomach.
Daehyun let out a soft laugh. “Why does that bother you, precious boy? You really don’t like her that much?” Youngjae shrugged. “No, Jae-ah…we didn’t have sex. When you text me…that was going to be our first time. She was really angry when I told her that I had to go and then when I told her that I couldn’t see her again the next day…”
“What did you tell her, mister?” His voice was soft and full of worry now, but Daehyun picked up on it immediately and shook his head, moving his hand to slide his arm around his best friend and pull their bodies closer together.
“I told her that you were getting sick again and there was no one home to care for you. She told me to just wait an hour and you’d probably fall asleep by the time I got there anyways…I didn’t like that, because you’re my precious boy.” Daehyun felt his own cheeks heat up, but thankfully Youngjae couldn’t see it. “After you told me that you thought she was bad for me, I called her the next morning and we met up. I went out for a bit the other day when you were still sleeping since I didn’t want to upset you.”
“Mister…” Youngjae felt terrible.
“It’s okay, precious boy. I mean…I really liked her and she made me happy…but our relationship means more to me and makes me…happier than I think she ever could.” Both of their hearts began to race, but it was impossible to tell if the other’s matched or not or if it was even noticeable to the other. Daehyun continued speaking after a long pause. “She yelled at me a lot. She…blamed you and that only made it easier to leave her. You aren’t my precious boy for nothing, Jae-ah.” His fingers curled tighter around his best friend’s ribcage, bringing their bodies closer together in the way that they usually would as they settled down for sleep.
“So…you aren’t angry?” Youngjae’s voice was meek and he was paranoid that this was going to come back and bite him in the ass for whatever reason. If not tonight, then sometime soon because it was only logical for Daehyun to be angry with him.
There was a long pause before Daehyun answered, as though he had yet to figure out the answer himself and hadn’t expected to be asked and so had been caught off guard. He took a deep breath and shook his head with a sigh. “I’m not angry.”
Youngjae was able to fall asleep without much trouble that night. Without the guilt eating away at him-not that he had ever felt any-but with Daehyun’s arm around him that he had missed, sleep came easily and dreams peaceful, which meant rest and less likely to become easily irritated come morning.
