Short and sweet, but includes development. I swear, we're going to get somewhere with this.
Previous Chapter “So this is where you guys are at when you sneak off.” Himchan observed as he walked over to the ledge and looked over the railing. The door had been greased to make as little sound as possible weeks ago by Daehyun as he had been hating how Youngjae always looked so smug when the elder man followed him up. Though, Youngjae knew that it was more because he felt cocky that Daehyun always followed him up to the roof once he noticed where he had gone. No one else bothered them up there, though. Until that day, no one had even known where they went.
Youngjae glanced up to Himchan with a small frown, wondering just how he figured out where it was that they frequented. This was a place that not many went-Youngjae knew this because in all the times that they’d come up there, they’d never seen any signs that anyone else had been there. This was their place in Youngjae’s mind, whether anyone else knew of it or not. Himchan didn’t belong here.
The card game that the two had been entertaining themselves with was forgotten for the time being. Daehyun set down his hand face down, leaning back on his hands with his legs folded in front of him. He didn’t look all that happy, but it was hard for anyone to see it if they didn’t know him all that well and Youngjae knew him very well. Though, his attention was on Himchan, not his best friend.
They both were glaring. Neither were obviously very happy with the fact that their place had been intruded upon.
“Why are you up here?” Daehyun asked with a low tone, catching Youngjae off guard. His attention was drawn back to his elder friend. That wasn’t a tone that Youngjae could say that he had ever heard used. It was filled with distaste and wasn’t something that Youngjae thought he ever wanted directed at him for any reason.
Himchan only laughed. It was a teasing laugh, a loud one that only intruded further. Youngjae winced and his gaze dropped, afraid that this would be the end of their sanctuary and they would have to hole themselves in the room and ignore everything that went on in the dorm. And while Himchan was home, the dorm could get quite loud…
“Dude, seriously. What are you doing up here?”
The youngest of the three kept his mouth shut, though his eyes widened as he looked to Daehyun in shock before lowering his gaze completely. He didn’t want to unintentionally draw that anger towards him. He wasn’t sure what brought on that anger, but he’d rather not be at the end of it.
“I have a date tonight.” Himchan stated as he looked out over the city as though he truly cared about the view that he might get from doing so. Youngjae and Daehyun, on the other hand, actually enjoyed the view that they received from this height, the sight of the cars and people below going about their business as they simply watched, the sense of awe that washed over them but could not be communicated in words. “Yongguk has one, too, but already called dibs on the room; I need somewhere to bring her.”
Youngjae should have known that Himchan’s intentions were anything less than pure. He should have realized that this was all for selfish reasons that would defile the place that Youngjae had found solace in many times. His stomach felt twisted into knots and his heart felt uncomfortable in his chest. His whole face was crestfallen as his shoulders sagged and he swallowed thickly.
Daehyun noticed this change immediately and decided right then and there that he wasn’t going to have it. “Fuck no, hyung. You can find some other place to fuck her. This is our place.”
Himchan only seemed to grow more amused by this. Youngjae didn’t like that because that wasn’t something that he found funny. He had been momentarily caught off guard by the use of the pronoun ‘our’ and so his gaze dropped back to the cards in his hands. He just hoped that there wouldn’t be too much trouble because he’d rather not lose the one place he felt safe with, other than Daehyun’s arms, that is.
“Oh, dude, come-“ The eldest man had started, though snapped his mouth shut quickly when Daehyun didn’t put up with him, didn’t even humor him.
“No, I said. Now go before I kick your ass.” That had been a threat they had all used on one another, but never before did it sound so serious. Himchan didn’t have anything else witty to say. He knew when to back down. He had learned over the past few months from the leader that he had to be more careful of what he did and said. There was no point in pissing off the other members of the group when they practically spent 24/7 together. And it looked like Himchan had done enough damage as it was.
He didn’t say anything as he left, simply nodding and backtracking the way he had come. When the door to the roof shut, it left an echo in the tense silence. Or, at least, it was tense to Youngjae because he wasn’t sure how to gauge Daehyun’s mood. He didn’t want to have it directed at him next and so he thought it best if they stay silent. Silence was safe right now. The younger man had his gaze directed downward, bending the corner of his card back and forth for lack of anything else to do.
When Daehyun’s hand touched his knee, he lifted his gaze and looked at him quizzically, though with a bit of apprehension in his gaze that Daehyun saw and would remedy immediately. He offered a small smile before he spoke. “This is our place.” Daehyun repeated, this time with a gentle tone that sent a thrill through Youngjae’s body. “Come on, it’s your turn.” He pulled his hand back and lifted his cards from the floor, spreading them out and looking over them.
