Story in the Making [2/?]

So both chapters so far seem to both hover just about a thousand words. The way I had originally written this out was very basic scenes that covered what I wanted to get across as only my soulmate was going to read it. Since she asked me to post these on livejournal, I lengthened them all; what had initially been about 300-600 words per section should now become 1000+. The chapters will lengthen as the scenes develop, but as you can see it is the beginning of their relationship.

Previous Chapter

The storm that hit Seoul was intense. There was thunder that caused the windows to shake. Lightning that lit up the apartment as the power had been flickering on and off for hours but had finally gone out about an hour prior to the time they all needed to be in bed. There was still work tomorrow and this storm couldn’t get in the way of that. It wouldn’t get in the way of that. Regardless of whether they all managed a good rest or not…

Youngjae was bundled up under the covers, hiding beneath it all as though that would save him from a storm that didn’t even pose a threat and wouldn’t in any sort of way. Daehyun was on the other side of the room, snoring away without any issue.

It was going on midnight and Youngjae found it impossible to sleep. The sound that echoed through the room startled him every time he had been falling to sleep. He wasn’t afraid of storms, he just didn’t like the incredibly closed in sensation that he was getting from this large storm that poured torrents over the city and interrupted his sleep like this was.

And yet his best friend was sleeping as though it was hardly something to struggle with. It didn’t cause him anger or irritation, it just made him jealous. With a deep sigh and a lot of thought, he began to sit up. The thunder nearly startled him to lie back down. It did startle him enough to let loose a soft cry.

“Youngjae?” Daehyun sat up immediately, rubbing at his eyes. He could hardly see and he wasn’t fully aware, but he had heard the cry of his best friend and couldn’t just ignore it. There was no way that he would allow his friend to be in pain or distress while he slept away. He didn’t care what time it was. “Youngjae, ‘at’s the matter?”

Youngjae’s heart was racing as he stared across the room at the figure sitting up. The lightning lit up the room and he could see the bedhead of his best friend, those plump lips that had a small pout every time he was only partially awake like he was now and his eyes hardly open. How the fuck did Daehyun manage to sleep through this whole storm, but the moment that Youngjae made a soft noise that couldn’t wake a sick baby, the man sat up as though someone yelled fire.

“S-sorry…” He didn’t exactly answer the question that had been posed, but he felt ashamed to now. He was almost embarrassed by how afraid he was of the storm that could do no physical damage to him. Or at least it could do no direct physical harm. The lack of sleep-which looked like a possibility now-could prove to be hazardous while he was working and could lead to injury and… “I can’t sleep because of the storm.” The only reason he answered was because the train of thought that had going wasn’t a good one and he didn’t want to let his friends down.

Another flash of lightning and Youngjae saw a small smile on his best friend’s lips. “Come here, precious boy.”

Youngjae stared at the man across the room for all of two seconds before another loud boom shook the window again. Never had he flown across the room that fast before. Within no time, he was huddled under the blanket and pressed up against his best friend who neither commented nor laughed at him. It was reassuring.

The elder man lay back down, his back to Youngjae as they both lay on their sides. These were single beds. There was hardly enough room for one full grown man, let alone two. Obviously these were not designed with sex in mind. But that was a conversation the five of them have had in the past-not six because the maknae was underage and too young to be having sex regardless of what the law said.

“Dae?” Youngjae asked after a few moments of silence. All he received was a noncommittal grunt in return. “Did you call me “precious boy”?” Youngjae was far from falling asleep so he figured that he might as well clarify what he had heard now that he deemed himself safe and away from harm-because he’ll stick by the fact that he was the closest to the window and so more likely to come to harm.

Daehyun tensed just briefly, just for a short moment as he hadn’t meant to let that slip. It wasn’t something he had done consciously because that wasn’t something that someone did out of nowhere. They were best friends; they were roommates; but more, they were band mates. It was a term of affection that he had thought of many times but had never been brave enough to use. Of course it would slip out while he was half asleep and only worrying for his friend’s wellbeing-whether the concern was imaginary or not…

“I did…is that okay?” He glanced over his shoulder at the younger man. He was a bit more awake now.

Youngjae began to bite his lip. It wasn’t as though it were odd to have nicknames for friends, but something like that? That was more of what lovers came up for one another…and yet he found himself liking it already. It made him feel closer to his best friend and reinforced their relationship in some way. It didn’t exactly make sense, but it was an affectionate pet name, those didn’t have to make sense.

“Only if I can call you mister.” His soft words nearly went unheard by Daehyun as the man had already begun to fall back to sleep despite the continuing thunder.

Instead of answering verbally, Daehyun turned around carefully to face the man and brought him closer by wrapping an arm around his waist. This not only made the small bed more capable of holding two men, not only shared warmth, but it made Youngjae feel safer as the storm raged outside the window. It was probably only a few moments before Youngjae had fallen asleep, safe and content without a worry in the world.
