My mother came.
She didn't send any word or give any warning, but perhaps I should have anticipated this. (Of course, she blames it on the owls but) she's the sort who likes to catch you off guard. It wasn't an enjoyable visit to say the least. The first thing she said to me was, "My, Pansy, what an interesting hair colour. It makes your face stand out so." After which she proceeded to reiterate the disappointments she conveyed in her letter about my plans for the future. Thankfully she is gone now.
This morning I visited Professor Dumbledore again. (I had intended to talk to Professor Snape about a particular matter but I was unable to find him.) There is something about that twinkle in his eye that puts me on edge. Perhaps I have always had a distrustful nature but I feel as if he knows my very thoughts before I even think them, and this is not something I am comfortable with.
I tried to discuss several issues with him that concerned me, particularly about inter-house prejudices that seems prevalent among some (many) students here. However, Professor Dumbledore kept changing the subject by offering me lemon drops and saying, "You should not take things so seriously, Pansy. Besides, I wonder if you're really as concerned about this matter as you like to say you are."
Now I did not mention this specific case to the Headmaster, but Hermione Granger's negative generalizations about Slytherins in her previous post still bother me greatly. I didn't mention this earlier in my journal because I thought it best to put some distance between myself and the problem at hand. However, the more I consider the matter I find myself coming to the same conclusions. She was not sorry. She changed her wording, I'll admit, and I'm grateful for that, but editing a sentence is not an apology, nor did any of her later comments imply that she was even bothered that she said something so prejudiced. I realize she had house points taken away for this error, but to be blunt, I don't really care about House Points. What we (slytherins) should have gotten was an apology.
However, I suppose I am dwelling, and didn't I promise myself to look forward and move ahead?
