Cosette is sitting, alone, on the ground in front of a couch. There's a very pretty, full skirted white dress lying on the ground next to her, and she is alternating between staring at it and dabbing at her eyes with a handkerchief. Francine is galloping by on her stickhorse when she sees her Aunt Cosette, and she promptly drops the pony and crawls into her lap. "Aunt Cosette, why're you sad?"

She lifts a bit of the dress up so Francine can see it. "It's my dress, dear. Isn't it lovely? It was my favourite, and now, I can't wear it." She sniffles a bit at that, and dabs at her eyes again.
