Day 5: Last night I got super drunk

Feb 15, 2010 19:10

Last night I went to a birthday party for someone with whom I am not very well-acquainted (he called me my sister's name when I walked through the door, but it wasn't awkward). I knew other people there, though, and we had beer. We started a dance party in the kitchen and I mostly talked to one guy - tall, red-headed, dark-rimmed glasses, slight paunch, hitting all of my crush-on-Chuck-Klosterman buttons. Nothing too noteworthy there - he goes to UTA and is an English major so we talked about professors. Then I got super drunk, and when I get drunk, I get handsy. I grabbed my friend's junk in a way that I repeatedly claimed was "totally non-sexual" but I don't think he agreed. Then I threw up TWICE because I am a classy broad, and then I wound up on the couch next to the red-headed English major, draped over him with my face pressed to his neck, because I am like a person on E who is very into tactile things and touching hair and skin, it's super embarrassing. I think I told him at the time, "Sorry, I just like to be really close to people when I'm drunk." I talked a whole lot of nonsense. We're facebook friends now, so I guess he didn't mind too much how embarrassing I was. I love making friends.

I know some people are collectors of quotes, or they have a lot of quotes that inspire them. I like funny quotes, witticisms, and bon mots. But I do really like many quotes by Emma Goldman, anarchist, feminist, and atheist. I'm not an anarchist, but I love this quote, and especially the more famous, succinct version.

"I did not believe that a Cause which stood for a beautiful ideal, for anarchism, for release and freedom from convention and prejudice, should demand the denial of life and joy. I insisted that our Cause could not expect me to become a nun and that the movement would not be turned into a cloister. If it meant that, I did not want it. "I want freedom, the right to self-expression, everybody's right to beautiful, radiant things." Anarchism meant that to me, and I would live it in spite of the whole world - prisons, persecution, everything. Yes, even in spite of the condemnation of my own closest comrades I would live my beautiful ideal."

Or, in brief,

"If I can't dance, it's not my revolution!" - Emma Goldman
