This is so pretty, and such a cool take on the challenge! I love it when you do painterly things because I always end up seeing something I know that's really resonated with me. I felt really emotional looking at Woman at the Window by Caspar David Friedrich and realized because it's the cover of one of my copies of Persuasion. <3

I get so emotional thinking about Isabel, about her choices, and about the way James ended her story, that I’m afraid I can’t be really coherent about her.

Awwww. I've never really read Henry James, tried to read The Golden Bowl at 11 (lol) and then got overwhelmed by it. Guess it's time to give him a shot again!

haha, I'm always doing these arty posts, I'm glad you enjoy them, bb!

I have that same copy of Persuasion, that's how I remembered that painting! ;)

I don't know why, but Henry James has really clicked for me. I liked Daisy Miller, Washington Square, and Portrait. It's not that his writing is terribly exciting or anything, I just find his storytelling really engrossing.

oh my gosh, thank you, I'm so glad you enjoyed! Portrait wasn't an easy read for me, but so worth it. If you do end up giving it a shot, I hope you like it! I really liked Washington Square as well.

lmao, I actually felt like I was cheating a bit by just using pictures instead of doing real analysis, so I'm glad it turned out okay! I'm so happy that Karl approves, and especially happy that you approve too. <3

Daisy Miller was the first thing I read by James too! If you want to get into him for real, Washington Square is another good one to read, imo. It's also fairly short, but gives you a lot to think about.

Thank you so much for putting this together, it's just such a cool idea! And again, I'm glad you liked this post! xoxoxoxoxo

The real offence, as she ultimately perceived, was her having a mind of her own at all. Her mind was to be his…It would be a pretty piece of property for a proprietor already far-reaching.

How appropriate for October that you would write about something so spooky. I've never read the book, but what a lovely way to engage with the text and take on this challenge!

Ha! I didn't even think about that. Portrait was quite an eerie and scary read for me just because you KNOW this has happened to so many women in real life: they make a decision to marry a man and realize afterwards that they actually mean nothing to him. :(
