I received this email today from Sandra Carrol about fundraisers for a member of the Irish community and promised her that I'd pass it along...
Hi Everyone,
I am writing you about two worthwhile fundraisers.
Pfc. Robert Bartlett, a former bartender at Rosie McCaffery’s and The Dubliner and a friend to everyone on their staffs and to many of their patrons is in need of your help.
Robert left several months ago and joined the Army. On Tuesday May, 3rd while stationed in Iraq, his vehicle was attacked. Two soldiers were killed, one lost both legs and Robert was severely burned with severe facial injuries and might lose one of his eyes. He was medivaced to receive emergency care; flown out of Iraq that day to Germany for advanced treatment; and then sent to Walter Reed Hospital over the weekend where he will undergo a year or more of surgical procedures before he can return to his normal life. The money raised will provide funds so his family can go to visit him periodically during the year when he is receiving the surgeries and will also take care of any other needs he will have during this difficult time.
The Dubliner ( 3841 E. Thunderbird) is holding a fundraiser on May 22 from 1:00pm to 9:00pm. There will be music, food and your favorite libations and a silent auction items which I am told will include some wonderful travel getaways. Also here is something all you single ladies will love. There will be a bachelor auction which will feature hunkalicious firemen and police officiers. All you beautiful Colleens grab your friends and have a great time bidding on the fellows and who knows you just might meet Mr. Right. It promises to be lots of fun and it is definitely for a worthy cause. For those of you who are already promised or married just come and watch the fun or drag along that single co-worker, relative or friend. You can cheer them on.
If you can’t make the Dubliner event you will have a second chance to help Robert or maybe you will have so much fun at the Dubliner that you will want to come to Rosie’s also. Remember this is for a great cause! There will be a second benefit/fundraiser/appreciation day for him on Sunday June 26th, 2005 at Rosie's (906 E. Camelback Rd.) from 1:00 PM to 10:00 PM. Food, drinks will be in abundance and a ton of prizes will be raffled off. Musicians, Seamus and the staff and many of their suppliers are being contacted to donate/help. Be sure to come to one of these or both whether it's for a minute or for the day to show Robert and his family your support and appreciation for the sacrifices he has endured on our behalf.
The Irish have a unique history in the defense and preservation of freedom in this country. Let us all collectively make sure he feels that support and gratitude.
(A separate bank account in Robert's name has been set up at Bank of America: account # 4681712386) So if you want to make a donation in his behalf you may.
