I don't always say the things I need to say. Dan is a huge part of my life, but it feels weird telling my friends how much I love him. Part of that stems from the fact that our relationship has been an emotional rollercoaster and many of you think I should give up. I don't. I've never felt about anyone the way I do for him. Your monk story made me laugh, by the way. I see quite a few on the Peking University campus--my roommate and I are trying to figure out where they eat so we can hunt down good vegetarian restaurants on campus (my roommate because she's vegetarian, and I because a lot of the Chinese food with meat in Beijing is a bit too greasy for my taste).

Hahaha - yeah...few of the monks we lived with were ACTUALLY vegetarian. Oh yes, they'd eat vegetarian in the temple (except for when they made these potato patties with beef broth, or when the curry was made from beef stock, or...) but as soon as they get out it's meat and sake! I actually saw one load up a plate at a seafood restaurant on the coast of the Japan sea with sausages. Yup. Sorry to burst that bubble! Good luck though, maybe they're good monks. ;)

(BTW, your Japanese help has totally helped me identify some characters!)

I have seen so many sink into the darkness of their own ignorance thinking they were on the right track. It will be nice to see someone blossom into light while in pursuit of knowledge.

For what it's worth, my reaction was more of concern for your safety. That point seems to have passed. I'm glad I was wrong, and I hope for you both to be happy. :)

No prob. Always been on the lookout for you. Just want you happy & safe. I think I remember it being said that a friend will disagree with you, be there for you if you fall, and applaud when you succeed. But that's just me getting all sentimental and stuff.
