I read Owl in Love! I thought it was charming, original, and powerful -- right up until the end, when I felt it started to feel a little undercooked, but that might be just me.

Did you like Octavian Nothing? I keep getting tempted by it in the bookstores.

Hope you're feeling better.

I liked how fierce and aloof Owl was, and that her love was depicted as a very active force, rather than passive/reactive, as female love is usually portrayed. The ending felt a bit...rushed...or something, but I did like the little smackdown her friend gave her - Owl's human side being the underdeveloped half of her, it was cool that finding a mate wasn't the end of her story, and that her friend seemed committed to teaching her about being human.

Octavian Nothing - it's a very powerful, disturbing, human story, that reveals itself gradually from behind some stylistic elements that I am very partial to - I love the dusty ornate language, the gothic touches, a quality that some historical fiction has that I call haunted. It's something I can't quite put my finger on, but it's one of my favorite things in a novel - haunted history.

(sorry, got eaten by RL.) I did like the smackdown from the friend in theory, and I thought it was appropriate, but I wish it had been better integrated. As it was it felt, mmm, like a big lump where the characters suddenly jumped into a separate chapter and then back.

Ah, that does sound wonderful, and thanks -- I will definitely put that on the to-read list, then.
