My big suggestion is to buy a copy of the Joy of Cooking - it has absolutely everything, and I consult mine all the time.
For the turkey, I'd buy turkey breast. You can get in packages like chicken breast, and brine it according to the Good Eats recipe, then bake it. It's less intimidating and makes more sense than a whole turkey for two people.
If you go with the Joy of Cooking, there's a great, easy recipe for gingerbread cake that's awesome with whipped cream - I made it for my family and Dave's last Christmas, and I'm definitely repeating it again. If you don't want to buy the whole book, but you want that recipe, email me and I'll type it out for you.
I'm so impressed you can make bread, by the way - that's a real skill, and something I've never done successfully.
Bread baking was a skill I mastered during my one semester eating in a Co-Op. 250 hungry, whiny hippies makes for fast fast learnin'. I find it much easier to bake bread in family size batches, though...
I really recommmend the Williams-Sonoma book for learning though, if you want to give it another go.
If you send me your email address I'll forward my family's recipes for all of our Thanksgiving dishes, including turkey, stuffing, etc. I always make a roast for Christmas, though. It's easy, especially if you have a crock pot. So if you want that recipe, let me know.

You guys all rule!!
Justy-those potatoes are definetely being made!
Elle-...mmm....gingerbread cake. Must do, must do. I think I even *have* Joy of Cooking. Must check boxes.
Cazza-just email 'em to Ryan, he'll print them for me if I ask really nicely! ;)
Thanks again, everyone. you rock!!
This is my first Christmas where I will not be with my whole, extended, crazy family on Christmas morning (I'm going home the 20th and 21st, though), so I figure if I fill the day with cooking experiments and baking, I won't have time to pine. It should be a fun adventure!!
