Energy bars?

May 07, 2009 12:21

Could I make some kind of homemade energy bar from the following ingredients that I happen to have on hand?

oats
raisins
golden raisins
dates
cocoa
peanut butter
walnuts
cashews
dried cranberries
coconut flakes

I saw Chocolate and Zucchini's post about making homemade Larabars, but I don't have *quite* the right ingredients. Any ideas, folks? Or ( Read more... )

Check out these recipes - I saw them on Good Eats and they looked great:

They do look good, but I'm missing many of the ingredients. :( I have to make do with what I have on hand, we don't have any more money until Tuesday.

I think they are chopped dates.

I'm looking for something kind of like a health bar, something that doesn't need any extra sweeteners, and is easy to eat one by one with no mess.

I'm starting to think I may just do biscotti, but I would like to find a way to use up the dates without making actual cookies...

I've been looking into something like this for when I'm out of the house and don't have ready access to snacks, I looked at the bars for sale out there but they all seem to have too much sugar/too little fiber or funky ingredients like sugar alcohols and root powers. If I find something I'll definitely share the recipe!

Yes, exactly, I don't want to add sugar or protein powder or anything like that. Maybe I will experiment, I don't know... I'll let you know if I do.

Let me know how it works for you. Some of the recipes below should use all your ingredients, and I think I recall you said you now have powdered milk too.

This looks like it could be modified to work with your ingredients.

This calls for bananas which you may not have, but I like that it has dry milk to add calcium/protein

This one might use your ingredients but I don't know about the sugar content. Sweetened condensed milk sounds a little too sugary
