A little late but...
In honor of the New Year, I'd like to share one of my favorite pieces of Chinese orchestral music, Ga da Mei lin. Gada Meilin is a Mongolian national hero. About 70 years ago, Gada united people from different tribes in Mongolia and led them in a revolt against the warlord Zhang Zuolin in order to protect their land. The revolt was crushed and Gada was killed.
The leitmotiv in this 20-minute tone poem is the melody of a folk song of the same title. The music beautifully evokes images of wide blue skies and expansive grasslands of Mongolia.
