As I was walking home two nights ago I came upon a bundle of clothes which was, in fact, a man. He was lying on the sidewalk, facing away from me. He did not seem to be homeless, although he was poorly dressed for a winter night. He wore no jacket, hat or mittens; his lying motionless on the sidewalk must have been colder than I can imagine.

re: your worrying that you're really being easy on yourself by suggesting you're being too hard - the dilemma reminds me of a certain girl I used to date, who went around "admitting" that she was a terrible correspondent and effectively excused herself in advance for not keeping in touch. but Sarah, you are much nicer and more aware than she was - and you don't want to be harder on yourself do you? what would that do?
