I try to remember this sometimes when I think of the compromises I WON'T make in the film world. To be a mainstream actress you have to make ALOT of compromises. Agents like starlets that will do whatever, because if you are picky, and you refuse a part, they won't get the money.
When you are not yet famous, you don't have the luxury to be picky with parts. You just take whatever, and whatever offer more money because you are typically broke, like I am right now. Taking off your clothes typically means more money and possibly a sag card.
I've thought about this for a really long time. What do I want to do? do I want to do WHATEVER it takes to be the next starlet, or are somethings more important to me than being a main stream actress. I think my choices will speak for itself. I now work independently. Meaning, I write my own scripts I cast the people, and it's all me, I DON'T work for someone else. I started doing this because there were so many scripts out there that I just find meaningless, or good films that are shot in a way I disapprove of.
For instance, American Beauty, completely good film, good meaning, everything. But why the gratiteous naked shots? This is the way I look at things. I'm not going to censor things for the sake of offending people, meaning. My films will cover, sex, crimes, drugs, murder, whatever. I am going to make films about mature subjects, however this is what will make me different. You don't need to graphically show things to talk about it.
Christians that are offered by sex, drugs, murder, suicides, cannibalism, human sacrifice, you better not read the bible. The bible cover all of the things above ( except maybe drugs). The reason why it's appropriate in the bible, is because it was done for storytelling sake, not in graphic pornographic details. This is the way I will make my films, because I will not censor life and reality and make a " happily ever after" story just so it won't offend people.
I also will not label myself as a Christian artist, or musician or film maker. I am simply a performer, and I am Christian. I know and hope that my faith will come through in my material, but I don't want to label myself and set other people up to expect certain things.
I wrote a song called " Save me from this Wonderland". The meaning of the song is that I'm trapped in wonderland, and I"m waiting for something to save me, meanwhile I'm struggling. I find Jesus and I'm saved from this wonderland called life. The person I was having to compose the music is a Christian, looked at the lyrics, and he was trying to politely discourage me, telling me that the lyrics are scary.
The lyrics are scary because I talk about holding a knife and needing an anedote for the overdose I just took. These are things that happen in life... and the meaning of the song is that I NEED something to SAVE ME FROM THIS WONDERLAND. The bible talks aobut war, murder, rape, suicide, cannibalism, human sacrifice, blood gore, angels demons, everything, I wish that sometimes Christians would open their eyes, and grow up.
